A simple but surprisingly fun little real-time strategy game that puts you in charge of an emergency rescue department. In the game you will need to dispatch police, fire crew and paramedics to various accident and disaster scenarios. The game lacks the often daunting complexity of many PC simulation games and is a good introduction to the real time strategy genre for older children and younger teens.

The game should install without any problems on a modern PC. The default installation directory is C:\Emergency. We recommend keeping this folder since the game will place its save files and other configuration data into the same folder it is installed to.

Running the game

Before you start the game you should perform one simple compatibility fix. Add the games executable file (emergy.exe) to the list of programs that are excluded from Data Execution Prevention (DEP). For a tutorial on how to do this, see this link.

Fixing audio problems

The game uses a CD audio soundtrack. While this does work on more modern versions of Windows, you will most likely find that the music doesn’t loop. When the current levels music has finished playing, you will be left with sound effects only. To fix this problem, we can patch the game with the _inmm.dll tool. Simply follow the tutorial here to extract the games CD audio then patch the games executable (emergy.exe). The CD audio will then loop correctly.

There aren’t really any graphical or other options to tweak, so you can now simply start to play.

Random crashes – Many gamers around the internet report random crashes with this game. We did experience this before we disabled DEP, but once DEP was disabled the game seemed to run just fine. We saved and loaded without a problem and played through the entire first scenario without any unexpected crashes.

Windows 7 issues – We have only tested the game with Windows 8 (so far). According to some reports the game has problems with corrupt/miss-coloured graphics in Windows 7. We will look into this in the near future and post any solutions we come up with.

Hi there. I’m trying to run Emergency on my windows 8 laptop, but as soon as I try to launch a mission it crashes and says “F104SOPEN not found”

I don’t know if moving the game via Dropbox from my case pc to my laptop has anything to do with that error.
    Any clue please?
