American humour and satire magazine MAD has been entertaining readers since the 1950s. In 1999, Brøderbund/The Learning Company decided loyal readers deserved some shelf space back in their houses and so released Totally Mad, a whopping seven CD-ROM set collecting the magazine’s content from issue 1 through 376, plus over 100 Mad Specials including most of the recorded audio inserts. Although not technically a game, we can imagine many of our readers might be interested in this collection. Note that there is a newer DVD-ROM set called Absolutely MAD, which adds several more years worth of content to the collection, so keep that in mind before you drop a chunk of change on this version.
The CD set should install just fine. Simply pop the first disc into your computers optical drive and follow all the on-screen prompts. If the installation does not start automatically, browse to the CD in Computer/This PC and run the “Autorun.exe” file manually.
Running the disc
Start the disc as normal, the content should run on Windows 7 and Windows 8 PCs. If the program crashes before reaching the main menu, add the “Totmad.exe” file from the installation directory (which is C:\Program Files (x86)\Broderbund\Totally MAD by default) to the list of programs excluded from Data Execution Prevention (DEP). For a tutorial on how to do that, see this page.
