Windows 10

windows-10Windows 10 is on its way, due to be released to the public at the end of next month. Unfortunately that means I won’t have time to test any games for a while, as I have to get all new training materials and books etc ready for Top-Windows-Tutorials.com. Once that’s out of the way though I’ll get to a few of the requests we’ve had.

What are my impressions of Windows 10 so far? Generally positive on the desktop, but not so much on my tablet. Perhaps in pandering to the “Windows 8 sucks” crowd, Microsoft are throwing the baby out with the bathwater and undoing much of what makes Windows 8.1 so stinking awesome on things like Surface and other high end tablets and convertibles. Like Windows 8 though, if you don’t like any particular design change (e.g Start menu) it’s probably only a matter of installing Classic Shell or something similar to put things back to the way they were in Windows 7 (anyone want to code ‘classic’ start screen? There’s going to be a few Surface owners who want that).

I’ll be tweeting regularly about Windows 10 from my “serious” Twitter account @TopWindowsTuts if any of you are interested.

Have a new HP laptop with windows 10 now installed. Want to be able to play an old 95/98 windows game Mig Alley on it. Game is installed but cannot get flight simulator to work. Any help you could offer would be appreciated. Desperate to play this game. What are my options?? I thinking of getting an old pc laptop to play this game. I was told at the store that when 10 was installed it should play but no luck. Please advise my options. Can’t thank you enough. Regards, Lou

Yep you’re absolutely right, if you can keep Windows 7 or 8 around as a dual boot or on an alternative drive I highly recommend it.

Seems like Microsoft decided to back port the SecuROM block to Win 8.1 and Win 7, so everyone can enjoy old games breaking! See Microsoft update KB3086255 :-p

Sorry, it breaks Safedisc. Similar thing tho, as that affects many EA games as well as Grand Prix 3 and 4, among many others: http://myonlinesecurity.co.uk/september-2015-windows-updates-kb3086255-breaks-many-games/
