If you’ve got a mystery to solve, then of course you’re going to turn to a Great Dane and his four friends when they show up on your doorstep. Especially if the mystery involves hauntings, kidnappings and spooky castles. In this 2000 adventure title, The Learning Company gave kids the chance to help Scoob’ and his pals solve the mystery of the phantom and save the princess Bernice.
Installation
Scooby Doo – Phantom of the Knight uses a 16-bit installer and so won’t install on 64 bit versions of Windows. Luckily for Scooby fans, we’ve produced this replacement installer for you. Simply download the file here (link broken? Let me know here) and run it, making sure your Scooby Doo – Phantom of the Knight CD-ROM is in your computers optical drive. The installer will also install the DirectX 8 patch we found for the game. Interestingly, we found this patch was actually included on our game CD, but the games help files and documentation make no mention of it, a real mystery indeed!
Note – There are several reprintings of this game. If you find that our replacement installer doesn’t work with your copy of the game, please let us know in the comments. The installer is really simple and chances are we’ll be able to solve the problem for you.
Patching
We were able to locate one patch for the game that claims to fix compatibility problems with DirectX 8. On our Windows 8 machine the game didn’t seem to require patching, but during testing on our Windows XP VMWare virtual machine the game did struggle to play some video cut-scenes. If you need to, you can download the patch here. If you installed the game with our replacement installer, the patch is already installed for you. You can also revert to the unpatched version of the game if you need to. To do so, browse to the games installation folder (C:\Games\Scooby-PhantomOfTheKnight by default) and make a backup of the “Scooby.exe” file before deleting it. Now, rename “Scooby.old” to “Scooby.exe”.
There are no other options to configure after installation, so simply start the game and start snooping around the castle.
Troubleshooting and known issues
Problems saving games – Like many older games, Scooby Doo – Phantom of the Knight places its save game files in the same directory that it is installed to. This can cause problems on more modern versions of Windows as programs are not normally permitted to write to the program files directory. To avoid this problem, you can install the game to an alternate location. Our replacement installer will use “C:\Games\Scooby-PhantomOfTheKnight” for instance. You can also manually edit the permissions on the games folder. A tutorial on editing folder permissions is available here.
Videos fail to play – If you get sound but no picture during some cutscenes on the game, try installing the DirectX 8 patch.
Hi! So, every time I try to download it, it says that it can’t find the scooby doo phantom of the knight cd. Do I actually need the cd to download it? Or is this something I or you can fix?
We’re not a warez site, it’s for people who have a copy of the game and can’t install it on their more modern PCs.

You may have a different edition of the game than us, there’s not much I can do about that.
I have just bought scooby doo – showdown in ghost town on disc….will this game work correctly in win10 pro 64bit or will it need an installer/patch etc.?
No video all black screen help
I just bought Scooby Doo – the glowing bugman, and Scooby Doo – showdown in Ghost Town, and I’m having trouble installing them both on Win7 professional, any ideas? Neither will play commercials or an introductory video, in the beginning, thinking that might be a little off? Anyways, when you start the game you get to the main menu, where you can press play /uninstall / etc. When you press play on “showdown”, the game closes down and nothing else happens. When you press play on “the bugman” you get to sign in with a saving name, and then that game closes down as well.
